Empowering Others God's Way In Finding Their PURPOSE!

You Are Awesome…

You Are Awesome!

Caregivers have a very special place in my heart. Yesterday I went through my day as usual but something kept going through my mind. I was having such a difficult time with mom and couldn’t concentrate on my work, my blogging.

The doctor called and had changed mom’s medication and as I was taking the call I suddenly knew what I needed to blog about.  Come back.  I pray that I don’t get sick this time or that the care of mom doesn’t get me so down that I can’t write to you.

I made this short video just for you.

I have so much information to send your way so I will be here every other day or so.  Keep your chin up and always know that you can count on me understanding where you are coming from. Catchya in a few days.

Well, if any of this post had an impact on your life and you want to help Fight The Forces Of Evil, then I HIGHLY recommend that you take just 30 minutes, and watch this Empower Network Overview Video that explains more on how this viral blogging system works and how it can change your life while spreading your passion.

As soon as you join, even if you start at the basic level for as little as $25, I will personally email you access to our training where you can start learning how you can take this business and not only increase YOUR income but bring a message to the world.

I wish you well ~

How To Know If You Have Diabetes

How To Know If You Have Diabetes

Pre-Diabetes

In the U.S., 79 million people over age 20 have blood sugar levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. This is known as pre-diabetes, or impaired glucose tolerance. While people with pre-diabetes usually have no symptoms, it’s almost always present before a person develops type 2 diabetes. However, complications normally associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, can begin to develop even when a person has only pre-diabetes.

What Are the Symptoms of Diabetes?

People with type 2 diabetes often do not have any symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they are often ignored because they may not seem serious. Symptoms in type 1 diabetes usually come on much more suddenly and are often severe.

Common symptoms of diabetes include:

• Excessive thirst and appetite
• Increased urination (sometimes as often as every hour)
• Unusual weight loss or gain
• Fatigue
• Nausea, perhaps vomiting
• Blurred vision
• In women, frequent vaginal infections
• In men and women, yeast infections
• Dry mouth
• Slow-healing sores or cuts
• Itching skin, especially in the groin or vaginal area

Call Your Doctor About Diabetes If:

You feel nauseated, weak, and excessively thirsty; are urinating very frequently; have abdominal pain
You are breathing more deeply and rapidly than normal — perhaps with sweet breath that smells like nail polish remover — you need immediate medical attention for ketoacidosis — a potentially deadly complication of type 1 diabetes.

If you are having weakness or fainting spells; are experiencing a rapid heartbeat, trembling, and excessive sweating; and feel irritable, hungry, or suddenly drowsy. You could be developing hypoglycemia — low blood sugar that can occur with diabetes treatment. Follow your treatment plan for what to do if you develop hypoglycemia.

How To Write Your Own Obituary

A final act: Writing your own obituary

By Gracie Bonds Staples

There’s no reason to believe Francie Mooney hasn’t got a lot more living to do.
And yet for the past year, she and her 87-year-old mother, Lucy Lynch, have been busy preparing for death, convinced that the best way to leave behind a coherent, meaningful and complete summary of their lives is to write it themselves.
In doing so, they are among a growing number of people here and across the globe who are penning their own obituaries.

Mooney, 62, of Riverdale, bought the “ObitKit: A Guide to Celebrating Life” shortly after her husband’s death in 2008 for herself and dozens of family members and friends.

“You drive through the cemetery and all you see on tombstones is the person’s name, their birthday and date they died,” Mooney said. “The ObitKit forces you to go beyond that and to be a bit more reflective.”

Pre-written obits can be a way for people to spare family members from having “to burden themselves with making decisions when they’re heartbroken,” said Susan Soper, a former Atlanta Journal-Constitution editor who created the “ObitKit.”

Soper said the “ObitKit” is really meant to be a parting gift to friends and family so they won’t have to make decisions at a time of sadness and sometimes shock.

“It’s the gift of peace of mind that they are carrying out your last wishes,” she said.

Lori Brown, an associate professor of sociology at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., said the trend is a fairly recent phenomenon.

“Rules or what we call norms about etiquette and appearing to be self-promoting probably prevented this in the past,” she said. “But the Internet and social media are all about self-promotion, and my guess is that this is connected to that trend.”

Perhaps more important than anything is the desire to fill in the blank between the year someone was born and the day they died.

That is what inspired Soper to write the “ObitKit” and David McConkey of Canada to launch her website, obituaryguide.com.

McConkey said the site is a resource for people who recognize the importance of planning and want to write their own obit. More than 1 million people have visited the site since its launch five years ago.

“The rich and famous get obits written by professionals,” she said, “but most of us who need to write an obituary for a family member don’t know how.”

Soper says when her grandmother died in 1983, she left a folder of instructions.

“It was just incredibly helpful,” she said, “but it didn’t dawn on me how much until my father died unexpectedly.”

As she and her siblings tried to piece together his life, they discovered they had few details.

That was in 1996. In 2004, Soper began culling together the “ObitKit” and has sold some 4,000 copies since it was published in 2009. The workbook was recently featured on the AARP website and is available at www.obitkit.com.

“It’s a guide,” Soper said. “It includes tips for planning the memorial service, conveying sympathy and keeping the spirit of the deceased alive.”

An obituary, Brown said, is one of those last platforms to tell your story, and writing your own means you get to control how others view you.

“We are a society where people are much more mobile, and having a community full of people who know all about your childhood, military service, college, children, grandchildren is far less likely,” Brown said. “So this is a reflection of a loss of community and really of strong connections to family.”

Mooney began working on her obit after a series of deaths in her family, including that of her husband.

“When that happens, it’s as if you’re not prepared,” Mooney said. “You don’t really do justice to the person who passed away if you haven’t given thought to it.”

Although they’d been married 38 years, Mooney said it was tough filling in the blank between the time Otto “Skip” Mooney Jr. was born in 1946 and the day he died in 2008.

“We talked about a lot of things and I mentally took notes,” she said, “but we never really sat down to write his obit.”

Unable to sleep one night, she wrote his obituary: “Skip’s much loved, well lived life on earth ended at Hospice Atlanta. … He loved his wife, his 25 pound cat Sam, his family, friends, the beach and University of Alabama Football, though not necessarily in that order.”

When her father died last year, Mooney was forced to repeat the exercise. Since then, she and her mother have been slowly piecing together their own stories.

“We have a lot of loose notes,” she said, “but we aren’t finished.”

Helen Woodward Brewster of Alpharetta was relieved her late husband, William Brewster Jr., took the initiative long before their marriage.

“I think there were a lot of personal issues that made him do it,” Brewster said. “He left a copy with me and his children.”

At 87, however, she has no interest in doing the same thing.

“I do not have any desire to have an obit and threaten to haunt anyone who puts my picture in the paper,” she said, laughing. “They can say what they want about me when I’m gone.”

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has four stages, I to IV, with stage I being themildest stage and stage IV the most advanced.

Leslie Kernisan, M.D. answered…

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has four stages, I to IV, with stage I being the mildest stage and stage IV the most advanced.

What are the Stages of COPD?

The conventional way that doctors stage COPD is according to the results of the person’s pulmonary function tests (also called lung function tests). These are special tests that provide measurements of how much air a person’s lungs can hold (the “forced vital capacity,” or FVC) and how quickly they can breathe out (the “forced expiratory volume in one second,” or FEV1). Doctors compare a person’s FVC and FEV1 to predicted numbers that reflect normal lung function in people of the same age, height, and gender. By seeing how much worse lung function is compared to the normal predicted numbers, one can determine the stage of COPD.

This is how COPD is usually staged:

Stage I: Mild COPD
FEV1 is at least 80 percent of normal. In this stage, people may or may not notice any symptoms.

Stage II: Moderate COPD
FEV1 is between 50 and 80 percent of normal. In this stage, people usually experience some shortness of breath with exertion; they may or may not have chronic cough.

Stage III: Severe COPD
FEV1 is between 30 and 50 percent of normal. In this stage, people usually are often tired and short of breath. They may have frequent exacerbation flares (or “flare-ups”) requiring extra treatment or even hospitalization.

Stage IV: Very Severe COPD
FEV1 is less than 30 percent of normal; or FEV1 is less than 50 percent of normal and chronic respiratory failure is present (meaning the person needs chronic oxygen therapy). In this stage, people are often short of breath even at rest.

Fresh fruits in an empty stomach

I received an email from a friend this morning and it was so packed with good info that
I decided I needed to share it all with my friends…..

Let’s REMEMBER to take FRESH FRUITS EVERYDAY and on an EMPTY STOMACH !
ALWAYS EAT FRESH FRUIT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

Dr Stephen Mak told that he treats terminal cancer patients in an “un-orthodox” way, and many patients recovered. He explained, that before he uses solar energy to clear the illnesses of his patients, he believes on natural healing in the body against illnesses.

See the article below
———————————————-
Thanks for the email on fruits and juices. It’s one of the strategies to heal cancer. Lately, my success rate in curing cancer is about 80%. Cancer patients shouldn’t die. The cure for cancer has already been found, whether you believe it or not.

I am sorry for the hundreds of cancer patients who die under the conventional treatments. Very few live for 5 years under conventional treatments, and most live for only about 2 to 3 years… The conventional treatments don’t make any difference, because most cancer patients also live for about 2 to 3 years without any treatment. It is difficult to cure cancer patients who’ve undergone chemo and radiotherapy, as their cells are toxic and weak. When there is a relapse, the cancer spreads very fast, as the resistance is poor..

Thanks and God bless.

Dr Stephen Mak

EATING FRESH FRUITS

We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It’s not that easy. It’s important to know how and when to eat fruit.

What’s the correct way to eat fruit?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH .

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.

Let’s say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it’s prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal!

You’ve heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!
Graying hair , balding , nervous outburst , and dark circles under the eyes – all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty stomach.

There’s no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t drink juice that has been heated. Don’t eat cooked fruit; you don’t get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste… Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body.. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!

AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & falconoid which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

EATING 2 – 4 ORANGES a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C & Potassium..

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.. Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer!

Can u believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It’s nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you’ve just consumed, which slows digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal..

A serious note about heart attacks.

HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE

Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they’re asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Be careful, and be aware. The more we know, the better our chance to survive.

A cardiologist said if everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life. It may even be your own life!

Your Aching Back

If you are caring for an aging parent you may be neglecting your own health like Donna Harris was. It took her some time to figure it all out but when she realized that her own health was just as important as her 94 year old mother’s was she decided she better start doing some refocusing. NOW she wants to pass on some of the information that helped her to you. Donna Wishes You Much Success In Your Caregiving Duties.

Drs. Oz & Roizen: Your Aching Back
How to treat and prevent pain

This month we answer your questions about treating and avoiding back injuries.

Q: I occasionally throw my back out. What treatment provides the fastest recovery?

A: Nearly everyone experiences those oh-my-grab-the-ice wrenches in our backs. “Throwing out” your back is not a single medical condition; the stabbing pain can be caused by various things that can be difficult to diagnose. The most common culprits are a muscle pull or tear with subsequent swelling; muscle spasms; arthritis; and, less commonly, a “slipped” (herniated or ruptured) disc or bone fracture.

You probably can’t diagnose the cause by yourself, but you can act right away to minimize recovery time. After yelling, immediately apply ice for 20 minutes. Do the 20 minutes of icing for a total of four times per day if possible, but at least two times a day. After you remove the ice, blood flow will increase, relieving pain and removing the excess fluid caused by inflammation.

Follow the icing routine for 48 to 72 hours and then apply heat (a heating pad or sauna are two options). The heat promotes blood flow, which speeds healing. Be sure to use the heat treatment only 20 minutes at a time to avoid overheating your muscles or skin.

The next line of defense is medication. You can use ibuprofen, an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug (Advil is one brand), to decrease pain and inflammation. If you see your doctor, she might prescribe a local anesthetic or an anti-anxiety pill that relaxes your muscles as a side effect. Massage can help prevent muscle spasms.

Finally, stay active. It’s tempting to lie still in bed, but that’s the worst thing to do! Keeping active by walking and doing simple everyday chores (we’re not saying run a marathon or join a football team) will keep your muscles limber and stretched. Inactivity may leave you stiff and prone to re-injury.

To keep from throwing out your back in the future, do the core- and leg-strengthening exercises as directed in the answer to the next question. If you experience chronic strains even though you do everything right to prevent them, consult a specialist about possible physical therapy or visit a chiropractor. Acupuncture can help, too.

Q: What exercises will help me avoid back pain?

A: Because most back pain results from muscles that are too weak for strenuous motion or lifting, stronger core (abdominal) muscles are your best defense. Abdominal muscles oppose your back muscles to give you support, muscular strength and stamina, and better posture—reducing the chances of straining and injuring your back. Legs and butt come in second to aid in heavy lifting; you need to tighten your abs and feel how you can use those muscles to lift. We recommend these exercises:

¾ Push-ups: This is the most important of our five exercises. Get in a classic push-up position with your hands on the floor at shoulder-width apart, your back straight, and your toes or knees on the floor. Lower yourself until your chest nearly touches the ground and push back up; resist snapping your elbows in the up position (leave them slightly bent, in fact). Look 3 inches above your fingertips so you don’t overextend your neck. Do them until you can’t do any more.

If you’re not strong enough to start with standard push-ups, start with modified push-ups on your knees or even put your hands on a stair step and graduate to standard push-ups. When the push-ups become too easy, increase the number of repetitions and change the position of your hands by moving them closer together or farther apart.

¾ Tailbone lifts: While lying on your back, place your hands—with fingers laced—behind your head like a pillow. Lift your legs, keeping them as straight as you can, above your hips. While holding this position, lift your tailbone off the ground 1 inch and slowly lower it back down. Keep your chin a tennis ball’s distance from your chest; compressing your chin adds strain to your neck and back. Do this 25 times.

¾ Side crunches: Lie on your back and rest your head in your hands as before. Drop your bent knees down to the left, resting your right leg on your left. Next, crunch your upper body, keeping your chin a tennis ball’s distance from your chest. Focus on pulling your belly button toward your spine. Do 25 times on each side.

¾ Lunges: Stand with your feet a natural width apart, weight centered, with one foot in front of the other and both feet pointing directly forward. Keeping your spine erect, bend both knees and lower your back knee toward the floor, allowing the back heel to lift off the floor. Stop when your back knee is 1 to 2 inches from the floor and your front thigh is bent at a 90-degree angle and parallel to the floor. Keeping your weight centered, press back up to the starting position. Do a set of 12 with each leg.

As you become stronger, add hand weights; or if the sets are too easy from the get-go, start with equal weights on each arm until you can’t do more than 12 lunges with each leg.

¾ Squats: Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and your toes pointing forward or slightly out. Facing forward, with chest lifted, shoulder blades drawn together and down, a natural arch in your lower back, and your navel pulled in toward your spine, slowly bend your knees, taking your hips back toward the wall behind you and down toward the floor, until your thighs are almost parallel to the floor. Don’t let your knees extend farther in front of you than your toes. Slowly push back up to the starting position. Keep your upper torso lifted and do not lean forward excessively—this could strain your back! As with lunges, add equal hand weights as you get stronger. Do as many as you can within two minutes and without exhaustion.

If you don’t like to exercise by yourself, take a yoga or Pilates class. Both build core strength, balance and good posture.

Q: Whenever I buy something heavy at the home center, the cashier asks a guy wearing a weight belt to put it in my car. To prevent injuring myself, should I wear a weight belt when I unload the stuff at home?

A: Weight belts are designed to provide extra support for your waist when lifting heavy objects. But you have a natural weight belt: your abdominal muscles. If your abs are strong enough, they’ll provide you with enough back support for lifting heavy objects and avoiding injury.

Weight belts may actually train your back and abdominals to rely on the belts’ added support instead of your muscles. That leaves the muscles vulnerable when you call on them for protection if you’re not wearing a weight belt, such as when you slip on ice, twist in an unnatural way, or lift your child out of a grocery cart or car seat.

Do the core- and leg-strengthening exercises outlined in the previous answer to safeguard against back injuries during heavy lifting.

This Little Light Of Mine

This Little Light Of Mine

Hello and Welcome to Donna G Harris.com, my personal blog. I am thrilled today about what God is doing in my life and with my online business? God said not to hide my light under a bushel but to let my little light shine. So that is exactly what I am doing….This little light of mine!

Here is a video of Brenda Lee singing “This Little Light Of Mine”

Whenever I overhear someone talk about they are having trouble managing their responsibility as a family caregiver like I did just a few short months ago caring for my 94 year old mother, I just cringe inside. I cannot and will not keep this to myself what God has done and is still doing in my life and business and He will do the same for you as well.

Being a caregiver is one of the OLDEST and most significant jobs. It touches every area of your life and there isn’t any guarantee that you will even get a thank you.

It takes a very strong person to be a caregiver. This certainly isn’t a job for a WUSSY.

One needs a support team and continuing education to make this journey a success.

Donna’s passion is to provide other caregivers the support, tips and love to not only make their time with their loved one easier but to also share ways to help take care of themselves. This includes their emotions, spiritual and financial areas of their life.

Let Donna help you whether it’s financial, emotional or spiritual Donna has been there done that. She can relate! This little light of mine. Donna is letting her little light shine!

If you are curious about blogging on subjects that are important to you or you have a passion for….go here…
